Team Members Are the Heart of Health Catalyst’s Award-Winning Culture

Since its founding, Health Catalyst has been committed to fostering a positive workplace culture, centered on the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” and upheld by Operating Principles and Cultural Attributes.

Each day, in ways large and small, these values are reflected in the actions of team members, such as Senior Analytics Engineer Dustin Hirschi.

In late July, Dustin returned from a trip to Zambia. He journeyed more than 10,000 miles from his home in Ogden, Utah to participate in the Put Foot Rally, delivering 1,400 pairs of shoes to schools in Livingstone, Zambia.

“The kids were adorable,” said Dustin. “They were excited to see us when we visited their classrooms. I’ve never been that great with kids, but it was fun to get to know them as we fitted their shoes. It’s heart-warming to see so many like-minded people giving so much of themselves to help others in need.”

After hearing about the charity from friends, Dustin was inspired to participate in the event dedicated to providing shoes for children in South Africa. Dustin and fellow volunteers embarked on an adventurous journey from Cape Town, South Africa, navigating a changing route with checkpoint parties along the way.

“The event is to raise awareness and funds for the Put Foot Foundation, the foundation’s goal is to provide as many children as possible throughout Southern Africa with a pair of school shoes,” Dustin said.

To raise funds for the charity, each participant aimed to contribute $50. While brainstorming ways to fundraise, Dustin decided to involve his colleagues at Health Catalyst. He added the Put Foot Rally to Motivosity, the company’s internal platform for sharing appreciation and goodwill between team members. The platform can also be used to contribute funds to charitable causes. In January, the Put Foot Rally was featured as the "Charity of the Month," where Health Catalyst matched all team member donations.

This collaborative effort between Dustin, his fellow team members, and Health Catalyst is just one example of the company’s culture in action. With the help of his colleagues through Motivosity, Dustin and the rest of his team raised a total of $3,169 for the Put Foot Rally.

“Everyone’s kindness in donating their Motivosity bucks totally blew me away,” Dustin said. “Words can’t express how much gratitude we have for everyone who supported us—Thank you!”
